Please see update below: Disappointed.😔what started out as a nice evening feels disappointing. Waiter was very nice and accommodating. He was the only one on, and it quickly got busy. That I can understand. But watching two female staff standing around in the back and another one at the front, standing behind her granite counter doing, I’m not sure what? Was frustrating. I ordered the pistachio salmon 🍣for the second time in a month, to be told, they’re out of pistachio, again. Ok, I ordered it plain, and kept a smile on my face. Meanwhile, the very pricey Margarita I ordered, arrived unblended. Oh well, I didn’t ask, so that’s OK. I won’t complain. But then, as the place filled up and I hear the blender roaring over and over, and wondered, “that’s weird how come they didn’t blend my margarita?” But OK, I’ll learn from it, and ask next time. The salmon, salad and the mashed potatoes were great. My husband and I agreed, that since I didn’t get a crushed iced margarita, we would enjoy a piece of cake for dessert. But the place got busier, and he continued walking by us without grabbing our plates while we swatted away, fly after fly. (Over a good 10 minutes) I wrapped up the rest of my salmon in a napkin and placed it in the cutlery bag to keep the flies off of it.. After getting up and grabbing the napkin holder from a dirty discarded table, because none had been offered to us… By now, I did not want the cake. I just wanted to go. When I grabbed our plates and stacked them and was ready to place them on another table to get rid of the constant onslaught of flies, the waiter leaned in, scooped them up and said sorry. I walked out ahead of my husband. I’m not an entitled person. I aspire to the Pura Vida attitude and practice patience. For $38,000 colones($120CAD) I expect better service than that. When your waiter is the only one on, and clearly cannot keep up, why is none of the other staff assisting him by clearing plates? Offering napkins? or a to go box? 📦 If the restaurant reads this, I hope management will make some improvements with the staffing to remind them, the customer is the most important. Pura Vida 💞🙏🏻 Update: i’ll need to come back for a piece of humble pie. I’ve come to understand that waiters dock clearing cleats in Costa Rica is customary as they do not want to rush you. I still don’t really like that. I don’t think the flies landing on your stuff is nice and we could’ve used a little more attention but I’m sorry I was harsh and added some stars. One of the best restaurants Atenas has to offer. I live here and eat out regularly — both in the San José area and at various locations on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Nevertheless, Selva Tica is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. The restaurant is a comfortable size and offers a good selection of food and drinks. The service is very attentive and friendly. The food and cocktails are excellent, and wine lovers will also find a really good selection. The cheesecake is simply incredible – a real “orgasm” in your mouth!
It was a really nice experience. A delightful service and the food was even better. A friend of mine share with us a recommendation, and my person here will highly recommend it to you.
We stopped on our way to the airport and didn’t regret it. The food is excellent, their menu is quite unique, everything was fresh and delicious with a nice forest view.
