Mono verde
Costa Rica

Wow! That about sums it up. Impressive food and drink presentation. Food was amazing. Drinks were great. Went to 4-5 different places in Jaco this was by far the best overall.
I’ve been coming to Mono Verde for years, but tonight reminded me why certain restaurants become part of the fabric of a town instead of just another place to eat. For the first time, we sat outside. Warm Jacó air, people wandering the street, music floating in from the beach, conversations happening all around us. It felt less like dinner and more like the version of Costa Rica people hope they find when they move here. We started with the Italian bruschetta and the tempura mushrooms, which I genuinely love. The mushrooms are massive, crispy without being heavy, and one of those dishes you end up talking about afterward because they’re unexpectedly good. I ordered the pargo frito, the classic whole fried red snapper that Costa Rica is known for, along with an extra side of the coconut rice because honestly it’s too good not to. The fish was perfectly cooked with crispy skin, tender inside, simple and confident. No unnecessary reinvention, no trying too hard. Just a restaurant understanding exactly what it is. But the best part of the night had nothing to do with the food. An old friend of mine who plays guitar around Jacó and the beach restaurants walked by and sat down to play some Beatles songs. I hadn’t seen him in years. Suddenly my friend Matt and I were sitting there talking about fishing, Costa Rica, life, family, and why so many people come to this town for a short period of time and somehow end up building a life here. Matt has lived here for years now and is raising his son Bruce here, which says a lot about what this town becomes for people. Our server was fantastic. Warm, attentive, authentic. Matt and I both speak Spanish, but she wanted to practice her English and did a great job. It never felt forced or transactional. It felt human. That’s what great hospitality really is. It’s not perfection. It’s creating an experience where people feel connected, relaxed, and genuinely happy they chose to spend their evening there. Mono Verde delivered that tonight.
Service was exceptional, and the restaurant has an excellent atmosphere. The seafood rice and the mediterranean ceviche were phenomenal. Prices were comparable with other places nearby and everyone who walked by and checked out the menu out front while we were there seemed to find what they were looking for. Highly recommendable
