We learned quickly that San Lucas is not just a place you go to eat. It is a total experience and walk through of Costa Rica’s rich culture. Fernando may be the most educated man I have ever come across. He is fluent in both Spanish and English and was able to tour the food with precision. I was incredibly impressed and would hire this man for any position in any country. Everyone we encountered seemed to care that we had the best night possible. Do not hesitate to plan an evening here.
This was a really special experience. Everything from the setting, the service and the food was really excellent. Our host Lady made the food come to life with wonderful story telling and a little bit of theatre. Every dish was carefully thought out and delicious. The setting was so beautiful and romantic and we were lucky to enjoy a clear evening with an amazing sunset. We loved listening to the sounds of the forest as we enjoyed the meal from our private glass pod in the treetops. If you are in Monteverde and celebrating a special occasion or just want to experience fine dining in an amazing setting I would 100% recommend San Lucas. The food and service were as good as any Michelin starred restaurant but unfortunately Costa Rica is outside the scope of the Michelin guide.
San Lucas is certainly fine dining and will have a star in the near future. They have the right combination of attention, experience, food and brilliance a Michelin star delivers on. Opt for the private glass lounge if possible and there are surprises around every corner. Fabio was an excellent host. Daniel runs an amazing kitchen and tells a story with every bite. Am experience not to miss. This is no gimmick, but fine dining in a cloud forest. Better than expected, and very appreciated! Bravo.
One of the most amazing experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived at reception, everything felt thoughtfully curated and seamless. The welcome was warm, genuine, and set the tone for what would become an unforgettable evening. Every detail throughout the dinner was handled with precision and care from the pacing of each course to the atmosphere high above the treetops. What truly stood out was the team’s attentiveness to our dietary restrictions. They took the time to understand my partner’s needs and ensured every dish was adapted without compromising flavor or presentation. Because of that, she was able to fully relax and enjoy the experience, which meant so much to us. The level of service, the culinary execution, and the overall ambiance made this an extraordinary night. It wasn’t just dinner it was a complete experience, and absolutely worth it. We would return without hesitation.
This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in all my travels and at home. Creative, thoughtful and innovative. This was for our 29th Anniversary and did it deliver. It was recommended by our travel agent and I am so glad we took his advise. It is not inexpensive but for the meal you experience it is worth every penny. Our server was very attentive and explained every dish exquisitely as well as our wine pairing. I am gluten free and they accommodated me beautifully. They did do a little cheesy celebration with a bride and devil statue with sparklers but after 6 courses with wine why not!?! Pura Vida!!! I am in the hotel business and will be sharing these pictures with our chefs!
