10/10 doesn’t even begin to describe our experience at San Miguel Restaurante. My partner and I visited one evening and immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. It wasn’t crowded, which made for a relaxing and intimate dining experience. We were greeted by the chef as soon as we walked in, and his warmth and hospitality set the tone for the entire evening. The chef recommended the catch of the day and proudly shared that the fish had arrived less than an hour earlier. I decided to trust his recommendation, and I’m so glad I did. The fish was incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared, served with potatoes, vegetables, and an absolutely amazing dill sauce. We were also welcomed with warm bread to start, which was such a nice touch. To drink, I ordered the Caipirinha, and it was hands down one of the best cocktails I’ve had—easily 10/10. My partner ordered the shrimp coconut curry with medium spice, and it was phenomenal. Every bite of every dish was full of flavor and clearly made with care. The pricing was also very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and service. Everything about this restaurant exceeded our expectations. From the chef’s hospitality to the freshness of the food and the relaxed atmosphere, it was an unforgettable experience. We are already talking about coming back to Playa San Miguel just so we can eat here again. Highly, highly recommend!
Always perfect and worth the splurge. Use WhatsApp for reservations (and reservations out here are HIGHLY recommended). Pablo and his team respond quickly. Food, service, and ambiance are always divine. As soon as we leave, we look forward to returning!

Without a doubt one of, if not the best restaurant in Guanacaste - do not miss your opportunity to experience a culinary treat. Denmark trained chef/owner has brought his experience working in fine dining across Europe to the sunny beach of Playa San Miguel. Definitely worth the drive to spend a day at along a fantastic shore and finished by a top-notch dinner. No regrets. We’ll visit upon our return in the fall. Bon appetite!
We’re sitting at San Miguel right now and already planning our next visit—that’s how good this place is. We ordered the ribeye and the seafood plate with sea bass, shrimp, and lobster, and it’s the best food we’ve had in a long time—and we are huge foodies who travel for great meals. Every bite was perfectly seasoned, beautifully presented, and cooked with real care and creativity. What made the night even more special was meeting Pablo, the owner. We spent time talking with him about his life and travels around the world, and you can truly taste those experiences in his cooking. His passion and story are woven into every detail of this restaurant. The atmosphere is stunning—warm, elegant, and relaxed in that effortless Costa Rican way. Incredible food, heartfelt hospitality, and a setting to match. San Miguel is an absolute gem.
