We had a group of 7-9 that ate here and we actually ate at Mar Azul twice during our trip! The experience was great! We met the owner (Olman) the first night and he was a pleasure to interact with. We were the last group in the restaurant and some members of our group wanted the lobster but they were sold out. The owner overheard this and was gracious enough to provide us with 2 of his own personal lobsters! That won’t be anything that we’ll forget! The food and the drinks (the El Coco was my favorite) were great; the staff was helpful and accommodating. We wish that we were able to utilize the pool but that required more planning😂 Eating at Mar Azul was a overall splendid experience!
A Hidden Gem in Coco Beach. Mar Azul Exceeded Our Expectations While searching Google for the best restaurants in Coco Beach, we came across Mar Azul, and I’m so glad we decided to give it a try. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. Our meal began with a delicious squash based soup and excellent cocktails that set the tone for the evening. I ordered the blackened grouper with seasonal rice and mixed vegetables, and it was cooked perfectly, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. My wife had the yellowfin tuna, which was equally impressive. One of the biggest surprises of the meal was the tropical salad with dragon fruit dressing. I’d never had anything quite like it before. It had the subtle flavor of dragon fruit without being overly sweet and paired perfectly with the rest of the meal. Our daughter loves octopus, so she ordered the grilled octopus, and Mar Azul absolutely delivered. The menu offers a great variety of fresh seafood and creative dishes, and everything we ordered was executed flawlessly. The service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. If you’re visiting Coco Beach and looking for a memorable meal, Mar Azul is a must visit. Fantastic food, excellent drinks, and a dining experience that exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back the next time we’re in town
What a treat tucked away in the side streets of Coco. Don’t be put off by the location, this is one you will not want to miss; fish is the focus and there’s a reason for that. Done really well, this unassuming little spot offers tranquilly, class and spot on service just a stones throw from coco beach. Check out the spicy, smoked margaritas!
As a vegetarian, I’m always attentive to menu options — and I was genuinely impressed. My pasta was excellent, full of flavor and beautifully prepared. My friends ordered seafood based on recommendations, and they loved every dish. The cocktails clearly reflected quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation — you could truly taste the difference in every detail. The entire experience felt vibrant, refined and memorable. A standout spot in Playas del Coco.
Visiting Playas del Coco, we were looking for place to eat. We had seen this restaurant as we got to town, and it was on the suggestion list for the condo we were staying at. We also wanted seafood and the fresh caught options on their menu looked good, so we gave it a try. If you look it up on maps/street view, it seems out of place as it’s outside of the main (and always crazy busy!) center of Coco, in a residential area, but do not let that stop you from going. We were visiting just before the busy season really picked up, so we were able to easily get a table on their patio, by the pool. The restaurant is very very nice, and like most, is open air. There’s a pool outside with tables around it, some covered, some in the open, and none of them jammed together. All four of us knew what we wanted before we arrived - a filet, cooked to our preference, with a matching sauce. However, once Diego, the manager, came to the table and started talking with us, we took his recommendation for a “trio” option, selecting three of their seafood options (we chose mackerel, mahi mahi, and shrimp) in a double-size order of both. We selected two different preparations each option (half grilled, half blackened), and got a selection of sauces. This was a very large platter of food, plenty to feed the four of us, and all of it delicious. Everything was fresh and cooked properly. The pineapple sauce (I forget what else was in it) was fantastic with the blackened fish and shrimp. We all liked the Chimichurri sauce too, which paired well with the grilled fish. For dessert we had a banana cake and ice cream and not a crumb went to waste. Very delicious. Diego spent some time after dinner talking with us about the restaurant and the area, which made the whole evening just a little nicer. The attention to detail in the food and the experience were top notch. I wish we were staying longer so we could make another visit.
