The food was good overall. Prices are not cheap, but they’re also not overly expensive, and the waitress who attended us provided excellent service. The restaurant was full, so the waiting time was considerable, which was understandable given how busy it was. One note about the food: the patacones do not seem to be freshly made. They appear to be the pre-made type you can buy at the supermarket rather than prepared from fresh plantains. However, there were some issues with the billing. The menu prices do not include the 10% service charge, which is added afterward. I’m not sure how legal this practice is in Costa Rica—perhaps it is allowed and I may be mistaken—but it would be clearer if the prices shown already reflected the final amount. Another confusing point was that they also tried to charge the 10% service fee on a take-home order. We ordered an extra dish to take home, and when it was time to pay, they attempted to add the 10% charge, even though we had previously been told they wouldn’t. When we questioned it, the staff’s tone became noticeably less friendly. We likely would not have ordered the extra dish if we had known the service charge would apply to it. Overall, the food and the service during the meal were good, but the lack of clarity about the service charge and the way the situation was handled at the end left a not so good impression.
