The Borucan Indians are a proud people that were the only native Costa Rican tribe to escape defeat and rule by the Spanish Conquistadors. The Borucans struggle to maintain their land and custom in an every changing Costa Rica but alas they have succeeded for hundreds of years and it seems the worst is over now that the world has recognized the Borucans and are interested in helping them preserve their culture by donating money, purchasing art and attending their unique celebrations. While not as well known as Fiesta de los Diablitos that is held over New Years, The Fiesta de los Negritos is a fantastic celebration featuring traditional dance, dress and music that celebrates their old customs.
