This a beautifully newly renovated if not completely new hotel. They have a big pool and hot tub. Private parking. Theres a minisuper is right next door. The biggest downside was the wifi signal did not get into my room, I dont know if that was just my room or not but that sucked. -1 star for the wifi situation.

A well appointed, centrally placed hotel in which we booked a triple room as my wife and I like space and comfort for our 3 night stay. Nice restaurant with reasonably priced food and drink. Good sized pool with comfortable chairs and loungers. If we had the room with facilities featured on the hotel’s and booking websites and a bathroom that looked like the one in pictures then it would have been no problem giving the Cayuga a htop rating. Our room No 116 was missing a number of features that were on the hotel’s website pictures of the room ie a bed that fitted against the wall rather than a gap big enough for the pillows to fall down behind it, a chair and desk, safe and wardrobe. The bathroom was a converted cupboard and was nothing like or similar to the one on the booking sites. One had to do a Paso Doble with the toilet to get in and out of it. The pictures don't lie; no prizes for guessing which is room 116's. We booked direct with the hotel rather than a booking site as our normal experience is that by doing this we get the better standard of the rooms in a particular category. Our room 116 was a big disappointment and if we’d known previously we’d have paid extra for a Triple Mini Suite One might ask why we didn’t raise the matter at the time but we’d had a long journey and the reply will no doubt be that we should have raised it at the time. However one shouldn’t have to spend time sorting out issues that the Cayuga should have got right first time. Not had any issues with any of the other hotels we’ve stayed in this trip. Pura vida.

We stopped overnight on our last full day in Costa Rica. Puntarenas is not as touristy as places like La Fortuna or Monteverde, so if you're coming from there, you may be in for a shock if you're expecting it to be like those places. The hotel is in a very urban area that looks sketchy, but we did not feel unsafe by any means. Remember that what might be perceived as blight does not automatically equate to danger. I would not, however, recommend walking alone at night. But that's basic common sense for most cities. The hotel itself felt safe, clean, and welcoming. Our room felt a bit like a prison cell as there was no window. It was also very hot when we checked-in, but fortunately it cooled down when we blasted the AC. The whirlpool tub, which was why we booked this room, did not work properly. When I turned the jets on, it spurted water clear across the room and got our stuff wet. So be careful! We didn't use the pool, but it looked lovely and quite big. There is also off-street parking, was is a great perk! Overall, we're glad we stayed because we got to see the ocean and walk alongside it before heading back to San José.

Overall, my stay at Cayuga Hotel was mediocre, and considering the price, it offers poor value for money. The hotel is acceptable for one night, but I would not recommend it for a longer stay. The main issue was the lack of attentiveness from the staff. In most cases there was no greeting at all, no “good morning,” and even during Christmas not a single “Merry Christmas.” The general feeling was that guest comfort was not a priority. To give a specific example about the lack of attentiveness: on the second day during breakfast we did not receive the fresh foods, and on the last day only one of us received fruits, the other one only on request with a questioning look. The hotel is very noisy. Loud music plays at the pool almost constantly, making it anything but relaxing. Noise from the reception starts as early as 5 a.m. and is very clearly audible in the rooms. Someone at reception also seems to use a mobile phone with an extremely loud and unpleasant ringtone, which is especially noticeable in rooms 113 and 114. The single rooms are very small. The toilet and shower are basically right in front of the bed, offering little privacy. The main room light is very harsh, similar to industrial lighting, and not comfortable at all. The air conditioning works, but temperature control is difficult, 24°C is too cold, while 25°C already feels too warm. Breakfast was okay. The coffee was good, which is a plus. However, the “yogurt with fruits” is actually a very sweet fruit yogurt with some fruit pieces, not natural yogurt as one would expect. On the positive side, parking is easy and conveniently located directly in front of the hotel. In summary, Cayuga Hotel is fine if you just need a place to sleep for one night, but due to noise, room layout, and inattentive staff, I would not recommend it for a longer or more comfortable stay.

All staff went over and above to accommodate our lack of Spanish, my gluten allergy and our interest in doing more in the community. The rooms were clean. The pool was refreshing Would definitely stay again.
