Ojochal
Costarica
At first glance, Ojochal can be deceiving. As you pull off the main highway into Ojochal, you will see a few small buildings which hold the local police, bakery and a restaurant. What makes Ojochal so charming is how the little town is laid out and spread over a few winding roads that follow a little river that flows through the town and others that climb the mountains overlooking 'downtown'
Ojochal literally has an international community living and working in this quaint town. You may hear French, German, Italian and Spanish as you visit shops, restaurants or stay in one of the many hotels you will find further along the winding road. With such a versatile community, you can only imagine the cuisine that comes with it.
Before the bridge, the first of the small roads to the left will lead you to some of the top restaurants in the area as well as a few local hotels where you can find cabins surrounded by lush jungle. The popular restaurants are located right next to the river and feature some great outdoor dining experiences with wine selections that will amaze you. Crossing the bridge will take you along the river and into the interior of the town. Specialty stores, grocery, restaurants and even a barber shop are found from the bridge to the community center where the local school is located. Most of the hotels at higher elevations will have signs on the road directing you where to turn in order to find them.
Its location makes it convenient to hit the various beaches in the area or take some of the exciting tours that can be found. Many of the hotels offer tours or are glad to point you in the direction of someone in the area that can make all the arrangements for you. Exploring the area allows you to see why it has such a large international community.
While Ojochal does not have banking available at this time, you can take advantage of the banking centers in Uvita on your way into Ojochal.
