Description
The Turtle Tour in Tortuguero provides an educational experience focused on sea turtle nesting. Due to its location surrounded by canals, Tortuguero is accessible only by boat from nearby towns such as Moin or La Pavona. Visitors should wear comfortable clothing and bring insect repellent, sunscreen, water, and a red light flashlight to avoid disturbing the turtles during night observation.
Before starting the walk at dusk, guides deliver an informative talk on sea turtle conservation and the behavioral rules necessary for respectful observation. Small groups then walk along the beach under expert supervision, maintaining a safe distance from the turtles.
During the tour, participants witness green and leatherback turtles emerging from the ocean and selecting nesting spots. The guides explain the nesting process as turtles dig holes, lay eggs, and cover them before returning to the sea.
