Description
The tour begins in Tortuguero village where you meet your local guide, adjust your bicycle for comfort, and receive safety instructions. You then cycle north along quiet sandy paths surrounded by coastal vegetation and small homes, with no vehicle traffic.
Your guide, an experienced wildlife observer, will help you identify animals often missed by visitors such as howler monkeys resting in the afternoon light, iguanas basking on branches, herons near wetlands, and flocks of parrots flying overhead. Tracks in the sand may reveal raccoons or other nocturnal animals starting their evening activity.
Continuing north, the route opens to an extensive untouched beach where the sunset colors emerge. This remote coastline provides a tranquil spot for a break. Here, you can relax, take photos, and hear your guide explain the natural cycles of the area, the significance of this beach for sea turtles, and Tortuguero’s unique geography.
After enjoying sunset, the ride returns to the village during cooler temperatures as forest sounds transition to evening, enhancing the immersive experience.
