Description
Operated by the original local team managing the trails, this 8-kilometer adventure combines 5 kilometers of hiking with 3 kilometers on horseback or in a 4x4 safari vehicle. The route takes about 3.5 hours and is suitable for most fitness levels, with well-maintained trails and some moderate uphill sections.
You will receive a detailed map, safety advice, and clear trail markings for a comfortable self-paced exploration. Along the way, discover four waterfalls and cross nine rustic bridges, including hanging and natural tree bridges. Natural river pools provide opportunities to cool off during the hike.
At the final uphill section, choose between a scenic horseback ride (weight limit 110 kg / 250 lbs; no prior experience needed) or a relaxing 4x4 safari ride while enjoying mountain views.
The hike concludes with a hearty Costa Rican lunch at a local restaurant offering panoramic views. Vegetarian and vegan options are available to accommodate different dietary preferences.
The area is less crowded than main Monteverde reserves, even during peak holiday periods. Operating hours are daily from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm, with last entry at 1:30 pm.
