Description

Start your day by discovering Costa Rica in a different way, not just by tasting its food, but by learning about the stories, customs, and traditions that make each flavor a meaningful part of everyday Costa Rican life. The experience takes place at your home or accommodation, bringing this private culinary experience directly to you. Enjoy a private, authentic culinary experience designed to bring people together, share, learn, and enjoy the moment at a relaxed pace.

The experience begins with a warm welcome and an introduction to the flavors you’ll discover throughout the breakfast. As the food is prepared, you’ll have the opportunity to watch some traditional preparations up close and learn about the ingredients used in Costa Rican cooking, as well as their importance in local food traditions and everyday life.

The star of the breakfast is traditional gallo pinto, one of Costa Rica’s most iconic dishes, served with eggs, ripe plantain, natilla, cheese, and avocado. You’ll also enjoy a selection of small traditional preparations, giving you the chance to discover different flavors and ways of using corn, including chorreadas, seasoned tortillas, and cheese-filled pressed tortillas. Fresh seasonal fruit completes the meal.

And because a Costa Rican breakfast wouldn’t be complete without traditional drinks, you’ll also enjoy freshly brewed chorread coffee, agua dulce with milk, fresh orange juice, and water. Along the way, you’ll learn more about these drinks, their place in Costa Rican traditions, and why they remain such a familiar part of everyday life for many local families.

This is more than a meal where you simply sit down and eat. If you’d like, you can take part in some of the preparations and learn how to pat and shape your own corn tortillas. No previous experience is needed, and participation is completely optional. You can get involved, ask questions, and learn hands-on, or simply watch, chat, and enjoy the experience at your own pace.

As you share breakfast, you’ll discover more about gallo pinto, corn and its traditional preparations, tortillas, chorread coffee, agua dulce, and other elements of Costa Rican cuisine. You’ll also hear stories and learn about customs and traditions that help explain how food is connected to everyday life, family gatherings, and the way Costa Ricans enjoy their meals.

The experience is designed to be relaxed, personal, and enjoyable, whether you’re traveling as a couple, with family, or with friends. It’s a chance to taste different flavors, learn something new, and connect with local culture through one of its most authentic expressions: food.

More than just breakfast, this is a way to experience Costa Rica around the table. Come with curiosity, an open mind, and a desire to try something different. Discover the flavors, drinks, stories, and traditions that make everyday Costa Rican life unique, and take home a memory that goes far beyond a meal.
