This tour offers insight into their contemporary lifestyle and the preservation of their customs and traditions.
Your tour starts in La Fortuna at 8:00 AM, with a one-hour drive through the northern plains to the Palenque Tonjibe community. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the locals and introduced to the village through a short presentation.
Following this, you will hike through the village to observe key cultural aspects such as their burial practices, traditional home structures, artwork, and crafts that support local income. You will also learn about cocoa cultivation and traditional clothing production.
The tour continues with a 600-meter walk along a forest trail to explore medicinal plants historically used by ancestors and their benefits today. Antique indigenous tombs are also part of this section. Finally, the visit concludes with a traditional Maleku meal in a Palenque before departing back to La Fortuna around 1:00 PM.
