Meet your instructor, Mao, at Tamarindo Beach, one of the best places in Costa Rica to learn how to surf, thanks to its consistent waves and sandy bottom.
Start with an ocean analysis and safety briefing. Learn about currents, positioning, and how to move safely in the ocean. Then, practice your technique on the sand. Learn proper board positioning, efficient paddling technique, the correct pop-up (how to stand up), and wave timing fundamentals.
After practicing on the sand, head into the water with Mao, who will stay close to guide you into the right waves at the right moment, helping you build confidence with every ride.
Finish with a refreshing snack of fresh fruit or coconut water after the lesson.
