Description
Deep within the base of Rincón de la Vieja volcano, La Leona Waterfall is located in a canyon carved by volcanic waters over centuries. This area is unreachable by trail and can only be accessed by wading through the river itself.
The trek involves walking through cool volcanic river currents while moving between towering canyon walls. Along the way, you can stop to swim in natural turquoise pools before reaching the waterfall. There are no constructed paths, steps, or platforms, preserving the canyon’s untouched environment.
The tour is intermediate in difficulty and led by a certified local guide fluent in both Spanish and English. Group sizes are limited to 30 to maintain a personal and safe experience. At the end, the waterfall flows into a large natural swimming pool, offering a unique opportunity to swim in a secluded setting.

- The tour requires wading through river water up to waist height in some sections.
