There were many things we loved about our stay at Amor de Mar. The location is excellent, with easy walking access to Montezuma, the beach, and the waterfall. The breakfast (available for an additional charge) was by far the best we had during our trip to Costa Rica. A special thank you to the night security guard, who was especially friendly and helpful. The only downside was our room, the Plumeria Room. It was described as being private with a large terrace, but that wasn't our experience. The room is on the ground floor off the street, and it was very noisy throughout the night. We could hear motorbikes, people talking, and guests coming and going at all hours. The terrace is located directly beside a walking path and adjacent to the neighboring room's terrace, so there wasn't much privacy. We could see people walking by and easily hear our neighbors' conversations while sitting outside. I ended up sleeping with earplugs, and unfortunately, the lack of sleep affected our stay enough that we decided to leave a day early and forfeit our final night. Overall, I would recommend Amor de Mar, but my advice is to request a room away from the street if you're a light sleeper or value privacy.
Beautiful hotel. What really sells this place is the view! You are right in front of the ocean with hammocks and seating scattered around the property. It is absolutely beautiful! The rooms are all pretty cozy and clean. The staff are really helpful and kind. They also provide breakfast for additional cost in the morning, which I enjoyed. I found this hotel very charming, with all the rooms having a different vibe. It’s also about a 10 minute walk to the beach and the town center. I highly recommend this hotel in Montezuma! The price is definitely reasonable and I really felt immersed in the beauty of the hotel and town. The walls are a little thin so you might hear some outside noise from other people who are staying or working on the property, but it didn’t really bother me :)
I came here for breakfast one morning during my stay and it was perfect! Super affordable and so lovely :) eggs cooked to order with beautiful buffet and even more beautiful view. Also coffee refills!! always a plus ;) I would definitely consider staying here if I return to montezuma!
As you can see from the photos, this little hotel has a GORGEOUS oceanfront view! The grounds and gardens are beautiful, with lots of hammocks and lounge areas to enjoy it. What you do NOT see from the photos is how close Amor de Mar sits to the main road, with buzzing motorcycles and ATVs constantly roaring by! We stayed in Buganvilla, described on the website as "our most private room". It was incredibly noisy with road noise and MUCH smaller than expected. Our family of 3 could barely walk around our suitcases! If staying with more than 2 people, consider renting one of their bigger villas. I would imagine the oceanfront rooms are quieter than the ones toward the back of the inn. Either way, bring white noise or earplugs for your stay here; Between the motorcycles and our amorous neighbors in the room next door, we needed them! Also, be aware that breakfast is NOT included with the price of the room. The nice guy who checked us in just said "Breakfast is at 7:30", so we enjoyed it for our 2 mornings there. Boy was I surprised to be charged $90 USD for me, my husband and 7 year old daughter to eat! Had we known that this wasn't a true B & B, we would have liked to try one of the restaurants in town for breakfast.
Hotel Amor de Mar is a slice of paradise in this area! The story of Hotel Amor de Mar will make you want to stay there alone. It’s owned by a local family who knows anything you could ever want to know about Montezuma. The breakfast is INCREDIBLE. The people who work at the property are so lovely, and the grounds are seriously a sight to see. No need for a pool here, the tide pools straight from the ocean water is more than enough. We had our wedding here not too long ago and our friends and family could not stop talking about how beautiful this place was. Hotel amor de mar made our dream wedding come true. You also have front row seats to all the wildlife like Monkeys, iguanas. whales, & dolphins (when the season permits). You get to wake up with the sun and go to sleep with the ocean waves as your background noise. I seriously will never stay anywhere else if I’m in Montezuma. I wouldn’t think twice on whether you should stay here or not.
