The staff at Hotel Cerro Lodge made this location our favorite of all our stops. Our stay was booked by Green World Adventures and in planning the trip we had asked that our daughter get a special treat for her birthday that happened to be one of the days of our stay. Jessica made sure to wish her a Happy Birthday upon arrival and confirmed the birthday treat and followed through with a fudge brownie, ice cream dessert and they even made a hand-made card from the staff! Even without this wonderful perk, Jessica was friendly, accommodating and informative. On our last day she noticed our son was enamored with the birds and asked if he would be interested in seeing an owl (we hadn't seen one in the 11 days were in CR). She asked Sergio, the chef, to take us to the owl and he did and our son was so excited. He and Sergio started speaking through Google translate about the birds, it was amazing. The food at the restaurant was superb! Everything we had there was wonderful. The pizzas can be easily shared between two people, but Jessica offered to put what I couldn't eat in the fridge and it was warmed up for us the following day at lunch. The unique part of the restaurant is that they feed the birds right from the restaurant patio, so you have the opportunity to see wild bird up close. We had a birdwatching tour in Carara National Park. Jeison was a wonderful guide! He was extremely knowledgeable and informative. The only disappointment is that the weather was dreary and kept the birds from being active, but that being said, we did see a ghost bat, cane toad, and anteater. The rooms were nice and clean, and for once on our trip the Air Con was easy to adjust and regulate. We cannot express how thankful we are to Jessica, Sergio, and the rest of the staff at Hotel Cerro Lodge for making our last stop in Costa Rica an amazing one!

We were a little iffy about this place when we turned on a dirt road to get there but we were so happy to start our trip here. We immediately Macaws overhead and monkeys in the trees. The grounds were beautiful for a small lodge off the beaten path. We were also iffy about the outdoor restroom but it was actually pretty fun. We had a great time at the pool which was clean and deep enough for adults with a shorter end for littles. The real charm about this place was the food and drinks. We met another family and enjoyed drinks with them and Costa Rican food for breakfast. We would go back to this hotel if we were back near the San Jose airport. It was a great kick off to keep us from having to drive all day down to Quepos. For the money- this place is a solid choice. A/C in room was amazing. The National park close by was a nice early trip. We hired a guide and saw a few cool animals. It was pouring down rain but still fun.

We absolutely loved staying at Cerro lodge. We were staying in this area of Costa Rica for a few days to see Scarlet Macaws and other birds. After arriving in the afternoon, we saw macaws, a motmot and howler monkeys in the trees right next to the restaurant from their deck. Loved eating meals or just having drinks on that deck as we were always seeing something. Meals were delicious. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. It was nice to have air conditioning. There is a trail on the property to walk around. The pool is wonderful. The staff is so helpful and friendly. They arranged a boat tour to see crocodiles and shore birds which was a great tour. Saw many new birds right from the restaurant deck.

Cannot believe why this place only has 4.1 score currently. Fantastic nature experience where you immediately feel relaxed upon arrival by the natural sights and sounds. Very nice cottages too with good beds, airco and an “outside bathroom” on top. The restaurant is very good too, we had the best pizza ever. Spot wildlife by just walking around or even from the pool: we saw Scarlet Macaws, monkeys, an owl… Great service too and great place overall

I stayed one night at this hotel. If you’re just looking for a place to stop over, the price is relatively fair, but don’t expect anything spectacular. The rooms are spacious and clean. However, the bathroom could use some renovation, especially the shower. A small suggestion for the owner: consider adding warmer lighting, as the current very white light gives the room a slightly clinical, “hospital-like” feel. The air conditioning works very well and the beds are comfortable. On the downside, there is very little soundproofing, so you can hear quite a lot—from the surrounding wildlife to neighboring rooms. The pool is pleasant, but it could benefit from more loungers and chairs. There are only about five sunbeds and four chairs for the entire hotel, which feels insufficient when it’s full. Overall, it’s a decent hotel, probably more suited for groups. I didn’t try the breakfast, although it is included in the room rate. That said, the price still feels a bit high compared to other hotels in Costa Rica. One highlight is the wildlife—you’ll see many animals, especially birds like parrots and even monkeys, as the owners feed them, which brings them closer to the hotel. In the evening, there’s also a pizzeria restaurant on-site which is excellent, offering great value for money. I’ve left a separate review for it. Finally, the staff is really great—very friendly, welcoming, and helpful.
