Amazing place to stay. Food was 10/10 at the hotel restaurant. Peaceful atmosphere with breathtaking views and very unique art around the whole property. Would recommend 100%
AC was closely monitored with locked remotes that kept the room entirely too warm. Toilets had to be worked on everyday that we were there. They would not even effectively flush urine. The restaurant is good but very expensive. There is a little strip center about a mile away with many options that were more reasonable. The grounds and pool was meticulously maintained. If your goal is to quietly rest this may be a good option. The restaurant staff were very accommodating.
Disappointing. The hotel pitches itself as 4-star, but a lack of maintenance and indifferent attitude let it down and give the impression that the owners are just milking it for cash. Positives were: empty beach, remote location, neat gardens, hammocks between the palm trees, large rooms with good air conditioning and filtered drinking water. Negatives were: no alternative restaurants nearby, average food at high prices, many sun loungers broken, pools not cleaned sufficiently given the birds and other wildlife which used them, jacuzzi non-functional, the occasional lizard in the room was understandable, the cockroach was not.
Only used the restaurant. Glad I booked as it was full by 730pm. The staff were a little under pressure and so the service lacked a little as the restaurant filled up. Food. Expensive for the quality and quantity. My burger as $24 and very basic, not much thought had gone into the preparation of presentation and the cheese was not melted enough. Small amount of fries and no garnish. My partners fish tacos were good but again presentation was poor, put them on a plate not in a plastic basket. There are many restaurants in the area that are better quality a d better value. We won't be back.
We loved the colorful aesthetics and architectural design of this hotel. It made us feel happy and comfortable. The beach was stunning and clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful after we were robbed near Jaco. Our massages were good. We loved the open showers and option to have a curtain outside the big windows. The food was decent - not the best of Costa Rica but satisfactory. Cocktails were great. Pools were great. Very relaxing and felt private and calm, even with kids there. Loved doing yoga in the grass by beach, and long walks morning and night on beach. Some outdoor chairs rundown but not a big deal. Overall we loved Alma and would definitely return. We thought it was well-priced for what it offered.
