Liberia Information

Liberia is a larger city found north of San Jose and the capital of Guanacaste Province. Holding deep roots to the heritage of Costa Rica and the regions culture, you will find small museums and historical sights in and around Liberia.  It is the location for the primary government for the entire Guanacaste Province making it an easy source for accommodations and restaurants.

Attractions

You can visit the Museum Del Sabanero, spend an afternoon in the central park or head to the Market Place for some shopping. Liberia makes a good stop for groceries on your way to the more remote beaches and has several grocery stores filled with a large selection. You can head north of Liberia and visit Santa Rosa National Park and the more remote picturesque places on Punta Santa Elena or nearby beaches. Take a day trip to Guanacaste National Park, Iguana Refuge or Costa Esmerelda Refuge. Ricon de la Vieja National Park is just east of Liberia and a great way to see great species of wildlife and parts of the majestic mountain.

How To Get There

Driving on the Interamerican Highway about 40 km. north of the town of Cañas, it takes around 4 hours from Juan Santamaria International Airport. Several local airlines like; Aero Bell, Nature air, SANSA or Taxi Aereo connect San Jose city to Liberia's International Airport making it even easier to get to the North Pacific beaches. Some international airlines that fly to Liberia Costa Rica are: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta and US Airways arriving from the U.S. Liberia is the meeting point for bus transportation to many destinations throughout Guanacaste, Monteverde, Central Pacific, Arenal or even returning to San Jose Costa Rica.
