Perfect beach location, but seriously let down by poor maintenance and hygiene The location of Tortuga HBH is absolutely perfect, right on the beach in a peaceful, quiet area. The vibe here is great, there is a nice swimming pool, and the rooms are spacious with highly comfortable beds. Additionally, the outdoor kitchen is very well-equipped and highly convenient for preparing and cooking our own meals. Unfortunately, the maintenance and cleanliness of this property are extremely low, especially considering what you would expect from a place of this caliber. While the water in the shower was hot, the showerhead itself is very old and unpleasant to use. Furthermore, the outdoor facilities—including the sun loungers and the outdoor kitchen—are poorly kept. The hygiene level in the kitchen area was actually repulsive; finding worms in and around the microwave was highly off-putting. It's a shame, because with proper upkeep and thorough cleaning, this place could be amazing. Right now, it simply does not live up to its standards.
Note: My review is based on previous ownership when it was Tortuga del Mar. Ownership changed in 2025 to HBH. Tortuga del Mar is exactly what I needed to unplug for a few days. Wish I could have stayed the whole week! Exceeded my expectations. Tortuga is within walking distance to many restaurants and a super mini. I loved watching the sunsets right from the backyard, falling asleep to the sound of the waves in the evening, and just enjoying the quiet serenity of the grounds. Lilli was an excellent host with great communication. I will definitely be back!
