This beach bar was a fantastic find for our family. We stayed at a nearby house and frequented the beach while we were in town. As long as the lounge chairs are not in use by hotel patrons they allow others to use them while enjoying beverages and food from the bar. It was great to have a beautiful and comfortable spot to hang while the kids played in the water.
We were looking for a place at the beach which had beach beds and some shade, and found AWA. The staff told us that the beds are usually reserved for guests of the hotel, but that we were allowed to use them until any guests of the hotel showed up wanting to use them. This was fine by us and we ended up being able to use the beds the entire afternoon. Drinks were a bit pricy ($7 for a beer) but the location and friendly service made it worth it.
Apparently if you're not a hotel guest, you'll be ignored. The bar was empty at 2:30 on a Sunday. I waited and waited and waited. Finally I waved down a housekeeping person, who sent a guy who apologized as all the staff were in a meeting on the beach. I ordered a drink. And waited and waited. Then a young lady named Victoria came to my table. I asked about my drink. Apparently the order was never sent to anyone. So she brought it and I ordered the tropical ceviche. It arrived quickly and was awesome. I finished both drink and food and waited and waited for someone to come to my table for anything else. I gave up and went to the bar, looking for anyone to help. Eventually waved down another housekeeping staff person who found another person to help me. Then the bill was wrong. I paid and got the hell out. Great food and drink, but good luck getting service. They were much too busy delivering drinks on the beach to the hotel guests to bother with someone else. I spent over an hour there, mostly waiting. Don't waste your time. I certainly won't go there ever again.
We grabbed some tuna pantacones to bring on the beach. The perfect beach snack. So fresh and flavourful, I would absolutely go back for these. The fried chicken was also excellent.
