Description

This tour takes place at Hacienda Baru National Wildlife Refuge. This is the best place in the Costa Ballena area to see wildlife. While most night tours focus on seeing reptiles and amphibians, we have the opportunity to see mammals, such as the 3-toed and 2-toed sloth, kinkajou, Mexican hairy dwarf porcupine, collared peccary, and more. During the rainy season, many frogs come out, including the iconic red-eyed tree frog. The tropical rainforest changes into a whole different realm at night, where the weird and wonderful creatures come out and reveal themselves. A licensed naturalist guide will share stories about the natural history of the area and the importance of flora and fauna we see, explaining the importance of each in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. Tours begin at 5:30 PM and last 3 hours. Flashlights and rubber boots (for the rainy season) are provided.
