Description

We are an indigenous tribe located among the Talamanca mountains and reach to the Terraba River on the South-Pacific side of Costa Rica. We have around 2,000 members in our indigenous reserve. We live a traditional life that is unique with cultural and spiritual identity. On this tour you’ll learn about all the ways that we live with nature and the different ways that it provides for us, as well as, the significant meanings behind our lifestyle and identity. Mask Workshop: A demonstration of the process of carving and painting the masks, as well as cultural history and significance behind them. Likewise, with the assistance of an artisan, you’ll be able to paint a Boruca mask, and at the end of it, it will be a true indigenous Boruca experience. Cotton Weaving Demonstration: A demonstration of the process of making cotton yarn, natural dyes, designs, and fabrics will be presented by a local crafts woman. Medicinal Plants Overview: Medicinal plants and the story of how the Borucans have survived over the years and how the plants have helped us. Sharing which plants, leaves, and barks are used and combined for medicinal treatments. Local Museum: Attending the local museum, one can witness some of the community contributions on exhibit and have an opportunity to support the local artisans through the purchase of products sold in the gift shop. Waterfall Hike: The sacred waterfall is an icon of the community and enjoyed by many.
